According to the news of Down to Earth, Ervin Nehar researched the action of single ion channel in cells with his partner Burt Sakman, for which he received the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1991. This research invented a new method patch-clamp technology in the lab. In the easy language it means that the method of measuring electric current in the body developed at the cellular level. That is, every beating of cells can be measured by this method. This led to the ability to accurately measure the process of many diseases as the ion of cells helped to understand the channel. Due to this, the exact way for treatment has also been prepared.
In the Nobel Laurete meeting, Arvin Nehar said that this discovery is how important his discovery is in understanding the functioning of the cells. He said that now we understand that ion channels and electrical signals are not limited to veins or muscle cells only. They are essential in almost all cells of the body. This discovery gave this method for the first time, it could be ascertained how light power is generated when ion passes through each channel in the cell membrane. His work showed that these channels are necessary for the basic processes like heartbeat, muscle speed, view and hearing. The disturbances in these channels which are caused by genetic changes are associated with diseases like diabetes and cystic fibrosis.

Ervin Nehar said that if these ions do not work properly then no person can move. This will not bite the heart and the basic sensations like seeing and listening will not work. He also said that with his technology, these problems could be understood in a more accurate way and the treatment was improved. Ervin Nehar is now 81 years old and is working in the field of physics in the Max Planck Institute for Multidisiplinary Sciences in the city of Gottingen, Germany. They are still doing research on the subject of how nerve cells communicate among themselves. He also informed that now ion channels have become the main subject of pharmaceutical research.
Ervin Nehar said that medicines like amlodipin used in the treatment of high blood pressure have been developed with ion channel information. Regulators like FDA of America now ask all new drugs to check whether they will not affect the ional channels of the heart, which improves the safety of medicines. In Lindau, Nehar discussed openly with young scientists and explained how the cells of the body communicate and which molecular and physical mechanisms work in it. Earlier physiologists believed that ion channels are only necessary in chosen special cells. Our technology showed that these are necessary for almost every work.
