Whitebhati is a shrubby plant, which is also known as ‘Beerberry’. It is mainly found in cold areas of the Northern Hemisphere. In traditional medicine, it has been used to relieve kidney stone and joint pain. Its scientific name is ‘Arctostaphylos Uva-Ursi’ and it remains green throughout the year. In the spring, flowers like its small bells bloom, which are white to pink. Later its bright red or orange colored round fruits grow, which bears like very much, so it is called ‘beerberry’.
Due to its spreading nature and always green leaves, it is planted for groundcover in gardens and parks as a decorative plant. According to the National Library of Medicine, the extracts of its leaves contain an element called arbutin, which changes in hydroquinone in the body. Hydroquinone has antiseptic properties, which are helpful in fighting bacteria of the urinary tract. Traditionally it Urine infection (Such as cystitis) and is used in the treatment of bladder inflammation. It balances the pH of urine and helps to control or remove stones by increasing urine flow. In addition, its anti-inflammatory properties are helpful in relieving joint pain and inflammation.
